A common misconception is that you should check your cell phone for a text message, as this is the most common way of receiving a 2FA code on other websites. But this is not how our 2FA method works. The way we have implemented 2FA is more secure as it uses a third party application to generate the 6 digit code. In our guide, we recommend several apps, including Authy, Duo, LastPass Authenticator, or 1Password.
Your No-IP 2FA code will be generated in one of these apps. When you open the relevant app on your phone, you should see a No-IP Entry with the 6 digit code. This is what Duo should look like after you tap on the entry.
Once you tap on the No-IP entry in your Authenticator app, it should show the 6 digit code. Depending on the app, you have a limited amount of time to enter this 6 digit code into your No-IP login screen.
Once you have entered the 2FA code into the No-IP login screen, click Verify. If the code is correct, you should be taken to your No-IP dashboard.
iPhone Passwords App
If you could not locate the No-IP entry in any of the previously mentioned Authentication apps, it might be saved in the Passwords app built into iOS.
You can access this app on your iPhone by searching for Passwords from your home screen or Settings App.
If you see a noip.com entry there, tap it to load the verification code.
Security Questions
If you do not have a security question on your account, please add one once you get logged in. This is very important in verifying your identity if you lost access to your account, or if you need to contact us via email or phone for any reason. We cannot make changes to your account unless you can prove you control the account, and a security question is a good way to verify.
You can do this under Account > Security. Select from our list of Security Questions and enter your answer.
Picking a strong Security Question:
Preferably your security question answer should be something most people would not know. For example, if you select the “What is your pets name?” but you post on your social media about your pet often, this could be used against you and would be considered insecure.
Alternatively, you will probably not be posting your Father’s Middle Name on your social media.
Another good option is to select “Enter a Pin” and simply enter a random number that you will remember. This is a secure choice as the answer cannot be easily gleaned from other sources like “What is your all-time favorite sports team” might be.
I got a new phone
If you got a new phone or wiped it and didn’t backup your 2FA keys, you will need to disable 2FA on your No-IP account. Only No-IP support can do this. Please contact support@noip.com for further assistance on getting you logged in.
